Make Valentine's Day Unforgettable

Valentine’s Day is the day we pay special attention to romance. We slow down to appreciate that special someone in our lives. More flowers are given, and dinners scheduled on Valentine’s Day then any other holiday. However, when Valentine’s Day originated in ancient Rome, it was a holiday celebrating fertility, and had year-long blind dates. I don’t know how you have a year-long blind date, I mean, after you’ve met the person you know who he or she is, but it sounds like fun. Maybe it’s a different date every time… that would be romantically adventurist! I digress.

Over the centuries, formal messages, or valentines, appeared in the 1500s, and by the late 1700s, commercially printed cards were being used. The first commercial Valentine’s Day cards in the United States were printed in the mid-1800s.

Today, Valentine’s Day commonly depicts Cupid, the Roman god of love. Originally, it was Lupercus, the god of fertility and hunter of wolves. But, because it was thought that the avian mating season began in mid-February, birds also became a symbol of the day, hence Cupid with wings, along with hearts, traditionally the seat of emotion.

There are lots of great ideas on how to make this day unforgettable, beautiful and romantic.  Since I’m an artist, colors and texture always set the right atmosphere and mood for me. I love to add a hint of romance into my space and want to show you how easily it can be done, even if you don’t have an artistic eye.

1.      Start with the color scheme to set the right mood. When you think about Valentine’s Day colors, choose reds, pinks and peaches. It works especially great in your bedroom. Little details like accent pillows and scented candles can create an immediate transformation.

2.      You can instantly update your room by adding a painting or art print on your wall. The sky’s the limit: from gentle and romantic to dramatic and passionate themes. Art is the best way to start a conversation, evoke memories and create new love vibes.

4.      As for the gifts, there are lots to choose. Give timeless gifts this Valentine’s season, beautiful soft silks. Those are always a winning choice.

The ambience in which one celebrates his or her love will burn that passionate and amorous moment into memory. Remember, a person won’t remember what you’ve said, but they will NEVER forget how you made them feel. Make them feel remarkable when you profess your love in a room the oozes romance with the right décor.
